Greenspoon Marder, P.A. Announces Gold Ribbon Sponsorship of Champions for the Cure 3rd Annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon

 

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., July 18, 2007 - The law firm of Greenspoon Marder, P.A. has announced it will be a Gold Ribbon sponsor for the 3rd Annual Pink Ribbon Luncheon, hosted by the Champions for the Cure, to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

 

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots advocacy program, which educates Congress, federal officials, state legislators and other policy makers about breast cancer through community involvement. Through events like Champions for the Cure, the organization has invested nearly $1 billion in the fight against breast cancer. Champions for the Cure was originally inspired by Susan G. Komen volunteers who advance the mission of the organization in more than 15,000 communities across the United States.

 

"We are so excited to have the sponsorship support of Greenspoon Marder," said Fern Duberman, chairwoman of the Executive Luncheon Committee. "Of the funds donated by the firm, 75 percent will stay right here in our community to be used for breast cancer education and diagnostic testing, allowing underserved women in our area to receive mammograms and other preventative treatments they may have otherwise not been able to afford."

 

Larry Blair, an attorney with the firm, was instrumental in getting Greenspoon Marder involved with Champions for the Cure. Blair's wife, Michele, has battled and beaten the disease several times, and she now serves on the Pink Ribbon Luncheon auction committee.

 

"To say I feel strongly about the cause, would be an understatement," says Larry Blair. "Of course, I think about my wife, but I also look at the statistics. They're staggering. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 182,000 women will be diagnosed with new cases of invasive breast cancer this year, and more than 40,000 of those women will not survive. With awareness and education we can save lives."

Greenspoon Marder, which dates back to the late 1970s, has a long-standing history of supporting the communities it serves.

 

This year's Pink Ribbon Luncheon will take place on September 24, 2008 at the Woodfield Country Club located at 3650 Club Place in Boca Raton, FL. Lillie Shockney, R.N., B.S., M.A.S. will be the luncheon keynote speaker. In addition to being a breast cancer survivor, Shockney is the administrative director of Johns Hopkins Avon Foundation Breast Center, as well as an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. All luncheon proceeds will benefit breast cancer research and causes. The 2007 event raised an estimated $40,000.
