Daytona Motorcycle Accident
Daytona Beach Police responded to the Oakridge Blvd. span of the Seabreeze Bridge in reference to a single motorcycle accident on top of the bridge span. The driver of the motorcycle, a 24-year-old Daytona Beach man had been ejected off a 2001 Honda motorcycle and fell approximately 85 feet into the Halifax River.
Michael Kohl, Daytona Beach, Fl. was fishing at the boat ramp saw the victim fall into the water about 100 yards from shore and went into the river to rescue him. Daytona Beach Police Officer Dawn Harris and Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Sean Dwan also entered the river and helped bring the victim and Kohl to shore. The victim was treated at the scene for a head injury and lacerations to the face, legs and arms.
He was taken to Halifax Medical Center by EVAC for additional treatment. Injuries were not life threatening. The victim had lost control of the motorcycle on top of the span due to a problem with the front tire, struck a concrete barrier on the north side of the bridge and was ejected over the rail. The motorcycle came to rest in the traffic lane of the bridge. The victim/driver was wearing a helmet.
