Reciprocity Agreement with Florida for Licensed Real Estate Professionals
HARTFORD, May 22 – Connecticut-licensed real estate professionals may now obtain a Florida real estate license under a new Mutual Recognition Licensing Agreement signed by the Connecticut Real Estate Commission and the Florida Real Estate Commission, Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell Jr. announced today.
“Many Connecticut real estate licensees either retire to Florida or spend part of the year there and want to be able to engage in Florida real estate, so this has been a top request for some time,” Farrell said. “My staff has worked diligently with Florida officials to craft an agreement that provides this option to our licensees and I’m pleased to announce that finally, we have opened the doors for them.”
License reciprocity is a standard of practice in which a jurisdiction (i.e., Connecticut) allows an active licensee from another jurisdiction to practice in its jurisdiction, subject to special license law requirements. This recognition between two jurisdictions is encouraged when mutually advantageous. Connecticut now has Mutual Recognition Agreements with fourteen states, including Florida. License requirements may vary by state so it is important for the Connecticut licensee to first contact the state where they are seeking recognition.
Effective immediately, any real estate broker or salesperson currently licensed in Connecticut may apply to the Florida Real Estate Commission under the Mutual Recognition Licensing Agreement. Connecticut licensees who are interested in Florida licensing must contact the Division of Real Estate at the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation
